Helping Hungry Kids Right Now
REDWOOD K-2 FREE FRESH FRUIT AND
VEGETABLE SNACK PROGRAM
The
Children's Fund is funding Free
Fresh Fruit and Vegetable
Snacks for over 400 little
kindergarten, first and second grade
students at Redwood Elementary
School. The children eagerly sample
slices of apples, sections of
oranges, broccoli trees, bananas,
tangerines, grapes, cucumbers,
carrots, kiwi and a wide range of
colorful and tasty produce. Young
children will make healthy food
choices for life when they have a
chance to taste new and wonderful
flavors.
Our
community partner Mendocino Coast
Produce is providing Redwood
students produce at their cost and
selecting produce for seasonality
and value. The Cummings Foundation
is providing the first year's
funding so we could get
started. Harvest Market has offered
to collect money at their registers
to help so we can keep the program
going. When you shop at Harvest
every donation you make goes to our
nutritious fruits and vegetables and
healthy snacks initiatives for low
income kids. Your donation of $25
($2.50 a month) provides free
fruits and vegetable snacks for a
kindergartener every day of the
school year.
SOS
SNACKS
It breaks our heart that some
children go home to hunger. We have
provided an SOS grant to the
schools to fund nutritional snacks
that can be put in a child's hand -
yogurt, string cheese, granola bars,
a bag of fruit and cheese, a muffin.
We have a pilot program going and
with your support hope to expand it
to all coastal school districts.
When you donate to us at Harvest
Market (CODE # 975) or right here
through PayPal, you make sure
coastal children do not go hungry.
